Rocking the 'Matchy Matchy' Coordinated Separates Trend

Mixing and matching prints was considered fabulous fashion but now a new trend has emerged , the Coordinated separates or the Matchy matchy trend. I call it new, but it is actually 60's style trend coming back .

I first spotted this chic trend on runaway when sabyasachi presented his summer resort collection at Lakme Fashion week. At first i thought this printed coordinates trend is just a fad and will not last long but bollywood celebs have proved me wrong.

So what is this coordinated separates trend?
It is basically wearing two pieces in same print or colour and going all matchy matchy the 60s way. This may sound easy trend to wear but it actually is very tricky because this can come across looking over the top when not styled properly.

The matchy matchy trend may look boring because you cant experiment much with them but when done right they actually look super trendy and interesting

Crop it:
The best way to wear the coordinated trend is by pairing printed crop top with skirts, palazzos or shorts. I say this because the hint of peeking midriff helps break the monotone of the outfit

Start off with smaller prints:
The whole matchy separates thing can get too overwhelming or worse you may end up looking like a granny . So play safe and start of with smaller prints or even coordinated solids. Stripes are also better option to begin with and then you can gradually shift to floral patterns

Keep the accessories minimal:
If you have found a print which works for you, then styling this is pretty simple because you need to keep things basic. Dont add too many accessories or colours , just a solid coloured sling and you are set. For more jazz in your look go for fringe shoes or a fringe bag.

For Office Look:
Co ordinate your printed pencil skirt or trousers with a solid shirt and a printed blazer. The addition of a plain shirt will minimize the overwhelming effect of prints. For professional wear solid coordiantes also work well.

Dress to your Body Type
If you dont have a flat tummy midriff baring crop tops are a big no or all the attention is shifted away from the outfit toward the extra flab. Slim women can go for flared pants and short women can opt for vertical stripes to create a height illusion.

The Versatility factor:
Apart from paring the matchy separates together you can also play the mix and match game with them and get most of your outfit.
