Being pregnant and delivering a child is no easy deal. There is so much a woman has to go through from emotional and hormonal changes to bulging bellies, swollen feet , morning sickness and cramps that style takes a back seat. Most of us commoners would prefer to move around in maxis and flip flops but for celebrities it isnt the case.
Kareena Kapoor Khan is pregnant and her maternity style has been flawless as she turns up in one fashionable outfit after another looking more divalicious every passing day and not to forget her pregnancy glow and heels. Kareena isnt the first celeb to give us  fabulous maternity style goals, even Genelia, Blake Lively, Kate Middleton have done it in past and here we bring to you the best of Celebrity maternity fashion. Would-be moms take note...

Celebrity Pregnancy Style and tips

I must say I am totally impressed with Kareena Kapoors Maternity style and I love how is keeping things simple yet stylish . I actually like this phase of her in terms of fashion more because when she was not pregnant she used to turn up in heavy ornate lehengas and suits carrying that pressure to look like a star on her. Now I feel her style is more laid back, relaxed and she is comfortable in her own skin

Kareena Kapoor in a printed dress

A comfortable chic printed dress and chappals was all it took for the Begum of bollywood to look gorgeous . Open hair and natural make up completed this look.

Drew Barrymore in floral Monique Lhuilier

Walking red carpet at golden globes was a pregnant Drew Barrymore in a feminine floral apllique high low gown dress. Sleek hair, bright lip and red heels completed look for Barrymore who looked every bit radiant. I love the idea of wearing asymmetrical hemlines during pregnancy, it helps draw attention away from bump.

Kareena kapoor in all white Anarkali

In a white anarkali suit with full sleeves and white pants Kareena kapoor khan looked serene. i love how comfortable this look is and the statement neck piece adds the required amount of bling to this look. Skipping the dupatta, wearig jootis and keeping hair and makeup simple is another tip women should take from kareena.

Kareena Kapoor in straight cut salwar suit

Blake Lively in Yellow dress and denim jacket

A yellow chiffon dress which fell nicely over her baby bump looked super stylish on Blake lively. This look was dressed down with help of denim jacket but those heels are super high, we commoners should avoid them when preggo.

Kareena Kapoor in maxi dress with a slit

In a sizzling look pregnant Kareena kapoor attended a birthday bash in a kaftan dress featuring a thigh high slit. A clutch, neck piece and cuff with pregnancy glow made for a winner look. who says you cant look sexy and pregnant?

Kareena kapoor in sabyasachi lehenga

Kareena Kapoor Khan is surely setting the bar high when it comes to maternity fashion. She walked ramp for designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee at Lakme fashion week in a grey lehenga and long choli.  Pregnant women can take cue from this look to dress of for wedding in their family. Go for a longer peplum style choli and add just one statement accessory like a tika or Rani haar. For make up always keep it neutral with lots of highlighter to enhance your pregnancy glow.

Kareena Kapoor in a powder blue off shoulder dress

Wearing an off-shoulder powder blue dress by H&M Kareena looked cute. Silver heels, side swept haie and natural makeup completed this look for khan. I think this is how women should dress in pregnancy, show odd your shoulders and keep the bump covered. What say?

Amrita Arora in white and gold lehenga

Amrita arora was heavily pregnant when attending Kareena Kapoors wedding and she sure glittered in her cream gold lehenga. Like Kareenas pregnant lakme fashion week ramp look this lehenga also featured a longer blouse which is the way to go for pregnant women. I also like the dupatta drape here which helps hide the bump a bit. A crisp pinned low V style dupatta is how women wearing ethnic wear should drape their dupattas . This drape works well with lehengas, anarkalis and salwar suits too.

Genelia Deshmukh in floor length Anarkali

The cute and bubbly Genelia was really an inspiration for me during and after pregnancy too look stylish without compromising on comfort. This heavy anrkali falls nicely on the baby bump and the styling is just perfect keeping comfort in mind. White and green anarkali with low heels and minimal accessories looked amazing on Genelia. This is nice maternity look for weddings or festivals anyone one of to be Indian moms can copy

The Pregnant Trio at Arpita khan Baby shower

At Arpita Khans super grand baby shower to-be moms Kanchi Kaul, Arpita and Genelia Deshmukh flaunted their baby bumps making for a cute 'kodak moment'. Kanchi kaul's printed dress is perfect for the casual do and the slit sleeve detailing style is something expecting moms can try.

Blake Lively in Poncho coat:

When your top half gets all bulky it is good idea to faunt your legs. Blake does just that in this look, pairing a shirt and mini skirt with a poncho coat. If you are not comfortable showing off all your legs then add knee high boots!

Celebrities look stunning even when pregnant and it is no surprise as they have their own stylist helping them dress to suit their bulging bellies but for most of us this is a luxury. You can still dress fashionably  and look beautiful during pregnancy with simple style hacks and tips

What to wear when pregnant -  #MaternityFashion Tips:

  • Heels are a big no when pregnant but you dont have to wear boring flats. You can try ethnic jooties, bellies, metallic oxfords or even sneakers for a relaxed comfortable feeling
  • Off shoulder is a trend pregnant women can indulge in. If you cant flaunt your waist then flaunt your shoulders.
  • Kaftan style dresses and maxis make for good maternity tops when pregnant and these can be worn by you even after pregnancy.
  • Tunics are the best bet if you want to go western when pregnant. you can wear tunics with relaxed pants which will hide the belly nicely. Long tank tops and wrap dresses are also a good maternity outfit option. Jersey dresses offer amazing comfort in pregnancy
  • For ethnic options anarkalis are your best bet. Anarkali style kurtis have plenty of room for the  baby bump to fit in and can hide the bump also in the first trimester. For a comfortable ethnic look pair a cotton anarkali kurta with leggings and a pair of jhumkas and you are good to go. Angrakha and Aline kurtas are also good options when pregnant.
  • Many women dont have a huge belly bulge until 6 months so they can wear their regular Lycra leggings like maternity leggings. Even after the belly bump is big you can wear normal leggings just by pulling the band below your belly. If you want more relaxed maternity pants try track pants or yoga pants.
  • Palazzo pants are hot in trend and can be worn easily by pregnant women as they are so relaxed.
  • Your regular harem pants or dhoti pants can also make for good maternity pant options atleast for first 6 months of your pregnancy. Maternity pajamas can be good option for night wear.
  • A flowy maxi dress can look uber stylish and fall beautifully on your growing belly too.
  • For a stylish maternity look keep your outfit relaxed and go funky on the accessories. Ear cuffs, boots, statement neck pieces, stacked or midi rings and even head jewellery should help you up the glam quotient
  • To add colour to your look you can go for scarves which can also act as cover up for your baby bump. Most indian women dont flaunt their baby bump as they dont want to attract evil eye.
  • Investing in a good maternity coat or jacket is important if it is winter. This will keep you warm and also up your maternity style by huge notches. For inspiration see Kate Middleton's maternity style.
  • If you are wondering what to wear to a wedding when pregnant then take cue for Kareena Kapoor or Armita arora. Go for embellished anarkali in one size large or Pakistani straight cut palazzo suits and shararas. If  you want to wear a lehenga wear a jacketed or peplum style choli.
  • Pay attention to the fabric when buying maternity dresses. Free flowing, soft and breathable fabrics like cotton, linen  are your best bet. Stretchable fabric like viscose and spandex are also a good option

Shopping Trendy Maternity Dresses in India

Maternity wear was almost non existent in India about a decade back and women here had to make do with over sized kurtas and maxis. But these days many brands have come up with pregnancy clothes line consisting of a variety of styles and designs to help you look beautiful even with your baby bump. I suggest you dont hurry into maternity clothes shopping and wait until your second trimester to get an idea of the size of your tummy and then shop accordingly. Until the second trimester most women fit into their normal clothes so waiting shouldnt be a  problem. also invest in basics and play the mix and match mantra.
